Shortly after joining the Novant Health People & Culture (HR) department, my team was tasked with hosting the annual Leadership Summit event. A global pandemic, an industry in tumult, and a super-regional healthcare system gathering all top executives from across its four-state footprint to lay out the future roadmap for the 35,000-person organization… No pressure. The C-suite wanted the event to be memorable and impactful, starting with a polished event brand woven through a wide range of touch points, from signage to notebooks and other swag to the presentation slide deck itself.
A pandemic. An industry in upheaval. Hundreds of executives of a super-regional healthcare system. No pressure.
While staying within the existing corporate brand guidelines, I worked to create a cohesive and differentiated look-and-feel for the Leadership Summit with the intention of reusing it in subsequent years to encourage consistency and recognizability. This included a logo for the event and an expressive pattern based around pill shapes which were applied across all touchpoints for an ownable look.
The event was a resounding success and earned People & Culture major praise throughout the organization, as well as from its highest levels. We hosted Leadership Summits in subsequent years which featured the branded look, and when tasked to also host a broader event for all leaders, the Manager and Above Summit, I iterated on the concept while keeping the major visual cues consistent.
